Did you know a goal of the Beaverhead County Resource Use Committee (BCRUC) is to support the development and revision of Beaverhead County Comprehensive Plan; to include all resources upon which county customs, cultures, and economy are dependent; provide county government with a tool that will enable the county to effectively influence government and non-government entities when making decisions that affect environment, customs, cultures, and economy of the people of Beaverhead County?

10/16/2002 Entry: "Montana State Conservation Nursery 2003 Seedlings List"

The (State of) Montana Conservation Seedling Nursery has released their list of plant materials available for purchase and delivery in March 2003. These materials can not be used for urban, landscaping or ornamental purposes. The materials must be used for conservation purposes, like shelter belts, stream bank stabilization or wildlife cover/feed.

The website of the Montana Conservation Seedling Nursery is:

http://www.dnrc.state.mt.us/forestry/nursery/

The prices are "wholesale" and the materials are conservation grade. Conservation grade means they are unsorted. Most of the trees and shrubs are bareroot and the grasses and forbes are in containers as soil plugs.

The seedelings are delivered to the Cooperative Extension office in March and are generally dormant. The main limitation with MCSN materials, is that you need to be ready to plant the materials when they arrive, instead of purchasing the materials when you are ready to plant.

It is also better to order early, as the plant materials are available on a first-come/first-serve basis and the nursery usually runs out of the popular items by February.
